President of Broadcasting Coordinating Council Called Attempt to Issue Broadcasting License to Gagauzia Going Against the Agency Separatism
Marian Pocaznoi, president of the Broadcasting Coordinating Council (BCC), made a harsh statement on the initiative of representatives of the Gagauz autonomy to issue broadcasting licenses to TV channels, going against the national regulator. “I believe that it is a form of separatism,” he said. Gagauz authorities have suggested making scandalous amendments to local law on television and radio.
He said that the BCC has been dealing with these issues in Gagauzia for more than five years. “Regional Directorate on construction, infrastructure and communications, which is one of the institutions of the Gagauz autonomy, issues broadcasting licenses to cable operators,” Pocaznoi said. “BCC filed a lawsuit against each economic agent who has received a license in such a way. But those same people began to open other businesses to obtain a license to broadcast on them. Then BCC was forced to sue the institution, granting this permission.”
According to him, the first trial is underway in Comrat, the capital of Gagauzia. “I am confident that we will win. After all, the steps, that the authorities in Gagauzia take, are wrong and illegal,” he says.
